Choosing a laptop stand that fits
A practical checklist for height, stability, and the way you work.
Decide how you will type
Raising a laptop also raises its keyboard. If you plan to use the laptop screen at a higher position for long sessions, budget desk space for a separate keyboard and mouse. If you type directly on the laptop, prioritize stability and a comfortable angle instead of maximum height.
Check contact points and clearance
Compare the support depth with the underside of your laptop. The stand should support the chassis without covering its ventilation openings. Front retaining lips need to hold the device without pressing into your wrists. Manufacturer weight limits are useful, but also inspect how widely the feet are spaced.
Choose between portable and permanent
A folding stand is easier to carry, while a larger desktop stand may offer more room for cables and peripherals. Look at the folded dimensions and weight rather than the word portable. Adjustable hinges should hold their position when you open the screen or plug in a cable.
Use a simple fit checklist
Write down laptop dimensions, weight, vent positions, and available desk space. Compare those measurements with the stand specification. A stand can create clearance under a laptop, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed fix for overheating or an internal cooling fault.
