Storage for small spaces

Find useful room without making your home harder to navigate.

Name the storage problem

Choose one problem before choosing a product: shoes near the door, spare bedding, or cleaning supplies. Measure the objects and the space available. Include the clearance needed to open a lid or pull out a bin. A box that fits under a bed is not useful if you cannot retrieve it.

Keep everyday items accessible

Use the easiest-to-reach areas for things you use often. Seasonal storage can go farther away. Transparent bins make contents visible, while opaque containers can reduce visual clutter. Either option benefits from clear labels. Avoid stacking a frequently used item beneath several heavy boxes.

Check the load and mounting

Read shelf and container load limits and confirm what mounting hardware is required. A wall shelf depends on the wall construction and suitable fixings, not just the shelf itself. Follow installation instructions and keep exits and walking routes clear. Tall furniture may need anchoring as directed by its manufacturer.

Try one unit before scaling up

A single bin or shelf is a useful fit test. Live with it long enough to see whether it is easy to clean, move, and put away. Buying a matching collection first can lock you into an inconvenient size. Keep a record of the model and dimensions if you later want compatible pieces.
